Replace Air Intake System
The air intake system that comes with the Sportster 1200 motorcycle is a very restrictive model. Just a small amount of air can go into the carburetor at a time to lower emissions. If you do not live in an area with specific emissions guidelines, you can try replacing the air intake system with a free-flowing intake and air filter. Rejet the Carburetor
Consider getting a jet kit to upgrade the carburetor itself. The current Sportster 1200 motorcycle comes with jets that measure the fuel to power the engine. Replace Stock Drive Pulley
The Sportster 1200 motorcycle is created with a 29-tooth drive pulley. This drive pulley is what pulls the drive belt, which turns the rear wheel's driven pulley. You will experience satisfactory acceleration for the most part with this pulley. However, to increase your acceleration capabilities on this motorcycle, consider exchanging the 29-tooth pulley with a 27-tooth pulley. Bear in mind that this will make it less comfortable to ride on highways above 55 miles per hour.
