Small and agile, the Harley-Davidson® Sportster® 1200 motorcycle is a superb machine powered by a 1200cc Evolution V-twin engine. The horsepower provided by this motor is considered excellent, but some riders want to boost their experience. Without spending too much money, you can upgrade the power of your Sportster motorcycle by replacing a few key components. Save yourself even more money and complete these changes on your own to maximize your bike's power. Check out Crystal Harley-Davidson, and our team will be more than pleased to show you around our complete inventory. Our dealership, located in Homosassa Springs, Florida, proudly serves Citrus County, Florida.

Replace Air Intake System

The air intake system that comes with the Sportster 1200 motorcycle is a very restrictive model. Just a small amount of air can go into the carburetor at a time to lower emissions. If you do not live in an area with specific emissions guidelines, you can try replacing the air intake system with a free-flowing intake and air filter. Look for high-performance models that result in stronger combustion for significant power gains.

Rejet the Carburetor

Consider getting a jet kit to upgrade the carburetor itself. The current Sportster 1200 motorcycle comes with jets that measure the fuel to power the engine. Usually, the motorcycle is manufactured in a way to offset emissions. By replacing the jets with larger ones, you can add more fuel to the motor. If you replace the air intake system or exhaust system, you need to complete this replacement, too.

Replace Exhaust System

Similarly to the air intake system, the stock exhaust system focuses on reducing emissions. You can boost power instantly by replacing the stock exhaust system with a free-flowing system. A free-flowing system means baffles that are less restrictive to help improve the flow of gases in the exhaust.

Replace Stock Drive Pulley

The Sportster 1200 motorcycle is created with a 29-tooth drive pulley. This drive pulley is what pulls the drive belt, which turns the rear wheel's driven pulley. You will experience satisfactory acceleration for the most part with this pulley. However, to increase your acceleration capabilities on this motorcycle, consider exchanging the 29-tooth pulley with a 27-tooth pulley. Bear in mind that this will make it less comfortable to ride on highways above 55 miles per hour.

With a few simple alterations, you can upgrade your Sportster 1200 motorcycle into the powerful model of your dreams. Find a local dealership if you need more advice.
