Since its inception in 1965, the Harley-Davidson® Electra Glide® has been a bestseller. It was one of the first motorcycles to feature an electric starter and the option for both hand or foot shifting. Another feature of this bike has included the backup kick-starter. 45 Degrees V-Twin Powerhouse and Twin Cam Engine

The Electra Glide in both classic and sport models features an air-cooled V-Twin powerhouse engine with four, five, or six-speed manual transmissions throughout the 1960s to the 2010s. In addition, the Twin Cam engine was introduced on specific models to attain higher horsepower and higher maximum speed. Both machines could produce between 60 and 70 horsepower and 95 up to 143 torque.

Other Features of the Electra Glide® Models

Throughout the years these models have improved considerably with the trends and customer needs and wants. In the 2000s models, audio systems were introduced with AM/FM cassette radios to allow riders to listen to their favorite music while riding. This and other features have become standard on these models to enhance the riders’ experiences. Some of these additional features include:

  • Spring-mounted seat

Additionally, other features have been added for rider’s safety, convenience, comfortability, and stylish design. Law enforcement organizations also have used the Electra Glide for years. The latest Electra Glide boasts a Milwaukee Eight 107 engine that is capable of 90 horsepower and 111 torque, at 5,100 rpm.

Present Day Electra Glide®

As technology has improved over the last couple of decades, Harley-Davidson has changed the standard feature lineup to include anti-lock brake systems, or ABS, cruise control, and the H-D Smart Security System. The most recent Harley-Davidson Electra Glide models boast the new electronic cruise control system, rear dampers with adjustable emulsion technology. In addition, Harley-Davidson designed the frame as a double-height and double-swing welded light steel arrangement.
